Symptoms, Causes and Home Remedies for Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a type of disorder that is accompanied with almost any type of behavior that happens repetitively. This recurrence can be represented as seizures. Epilepsy is associated with different types of seizures. The common Symptoms of epilepsy include auras, generalized tonic clonic seizures (grand mal seizures), partial seizures, absence seizures. However, according to researches, many people suffering from the disorder have no symptoms between seizures and thus lead normal lives. Epilepsy exists in varied kinds and each kind has its own set of symptoms too. Nevertheless, the main cause of epilepsy includes a problem in communication between the nerve cells in the brain.

Symptoms of Epilepsy:

The function of the brain normally includes communication among the cells by sending tiny electrical signals back and forth. In an epileptic person, the signals from one group of nerve cells occasionally become too strong, and overpower neighboring parts of the brain. Furthermore, this sudden, excessive electrical discharge can be regarded as the basic symptom of epilepsy. This symptom is called an epileptic seizure or convulsion. Furthermore, these seizures or convulsions occur in an individual for numerous reasons such as head injury, drug overdose, high fever as well as renal failure.

In a seizure, it is observed that an aura is usually the first symptom experienced. Aura can occur just prior the occurrence of the seizure or as much as several hours before it strikes. Aura consists of an impression of smelling unpleasant odours or hearing peculiar sounds, distorted vision, or an odd bodily sensation, particularly in the stomach. In the generalised seizures the whole brain is involved. The partial seizures can also become generalized seizure. Generalized seizure is further categorized into absence seizure, Tonic-clonic seizures, Myoclonic seizures, Atonic seizures, Tonic seizures.

Causes for seizure or epilepsy disorders

More often, causes will be idiopathic (unknown). Sometimes it may be symptomatic, i.e., having base for the suffering - suspected cause/disease. Commonly, seizure or twitching occurs when the brain/nerves lack essentials like oxygen, glucose, sodium, calcium, etc. Medical science has also identified innumerable causative factors for the occurrence of seizure disorders. The most common causes are:

Hereditary – Chromosomal abnormalities, autism, genetic predisposition, etc.

Attained during birth - Asphyxia developed as a complication of delivery, i.e., delay in conduction of delivery or due to cord around the neck or by ingestion of amniotic fluid, etc.

Physiological – Sleeplessness, overtime job, poor nutrition, poor growth, excess alcohol, sexual excesses, heat stroke, etc.

Psychological – Mental trauma/shock, fear, getting upset, anxiety, tension, depression, emotional conflicts, anger, loss, loneliness, etc.

Pathological – High fever, viral or bacterial infections (meningitis or encephalitis), ischaemia, high blood pressure, increased ventricular pressure, heart arrythmias, high sugar levels, metabolic disorders, vascular disorders/tumours, brain tumours, neurofibroma, parasite infections, etc.

Injury/trauma – Head injury from being hit while playing or due to surgical procedures to remove tumours or clots or druing forceps delivery, etc.

Drug induced – Seizures can also arise as a drug reaction during development (pregnancy period) or from drug dependency or from drug withdrawal which was held suddenly after having developed drug dependency (epilepsy or migraine), or from drugs poisoning with toxic doses, etc.

Causes and Home Remedies for Jaundice

Jaundice is a disease which affects the liver. If jaundice is not treated on time, it can even become fatal. Jaundice occurs when there is a build-up of bilirubin in the blood. Bilirubin is produced by the liver and excreted from the body in the form of bile. Bilirubin is a product of the breaking down of red blood cells. Due to a liver malfunction bilirubin doesn’t get excreted out of the body and then it start to accumulate under the skin and start to give the skin a yellowish colour. This yellow colour can spread from the skin into the eyes and on to the nails. With the exception of the new born jaundice all other kinds of jaundice can overload the liver even to the extent of damaging it on a semi-permanent and permanent basis.

Causes of Jaundice

Bilirubin is essential for digesting food properly and it is secreted from gall bladder. However excess bilirubin can cause jaundice. If in any case, red blood cells do not complete their average life span in the liver they are often broken down to bilirubin which in turn causes jaundice.

At times the side effects of some drugs can cause this disease. People who consume alcohol regularly are susceptible to this disease. Malfunctioning of liver resulting in increased bilirubin level can cause this malady.

A blockage in liver ducts can force bilirubin to bounce back into the blood and it can also cause this disease. Gallstone is one such impediment that generally creates this kind of problem. Genetic flaws and incompatibility of rhesus blood group can also cause this lethal disease. Malfunctioning of thyroid glands may also cause Jaundice.

Its use should, therefore, be avoided by such patients. If the juice of green bitter luffa is not available, it can be substituted by two to three drops of the fluid obtained by soaking its dry crusts overnight in water. Benefits of Yoga at Work

One can easily perform a handful of seated Yoga poses than can rejuvenate the spine and re-saturate the cells with energy. A simple seated yoga twist, a chest-opener, and a neck stretch will flood the upper body with energy. Allowing yourself a moment of internal reflection and focussed breathing will help shed lingering mental stresses and generate positive moods and communication with others.

This attention to maintaining wellness throughout your workday will enhance your overall sense of mindfulness and motivation towards healthy living and will facilitate better choices: correcting poor work postures, taking stairs instead of the elevator, going for a walk during breaks, drinking water and herbal teas on a regular basis, bringing your own healthy lunch and snacks, practicing time management and goal setting, seeing solutions versus just recognizing problems.

Listen to how the energy in your mind and body communicates to you throughout the day. If the energy shifts into a negative state: muscle tension, moodiness, hunger, headaches - take the time to turn this energy back into a positive light with a few easy Yoga poses. Take several deep breaths into the abdomen while sitting tall. Allow a moment to collect this energy returning to an inner place of calm, control, and presence.

Reduce stress and feel calm - Yoga is specifically designed to assist us in calming our minds and reducing stress, in order to find a state of calm. Yoga has been shown to assist our bodies in the production of norepinephrine, dopamine, oxytocin and epinephrine which results in a feeling of calm. The production of the natural chemicals in our bodies have also been found to improve our relationships at work.

Productivity - Companies find when employees practice yoga, and have reduced levels of stress, they are better able manage workloads and before more efficient and productive.

Pain Releif - Yoga can ease pain. Studies have demonstrated that practicing yoga asanas (postures), meditation or a combination of the two, reduced pain for people with conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune diseases and hypertension as well as arthritis, back and neck pain, and other chronic conditions. Some practitioners report that even emotional pain can be eased through the practice of yoga.

Flexibility - Yoga helps to improve flexibility and mobility, increasing range of movement and reducing aches and pains. Many people can’t touch their toes during their first yoga class. Gradually they begin to use the correct muscles. Over time, the ligaments, tendons and muscles lengthen, increasing elasticity, making more poses possible. Yoga also helps to improve body alignment resulting in better posture and helping to relieve back, neck, joint and muscle problems.

Yoga at Work practices can provide numerous benefits:

teaches individual stress management

improves the immune system and overall health, resulting in decreased absenteeism and sickness levels

increases productivity, motivation, and work performance

improves decision making and creativity

increases energy, mental alertness, and clarity

improves stamina

improves morale, job satisfaction, and positive thinking patterns

improves memory, focus and concentration

reduces muscle tension and pain due to sedentary working positions

improves flexibility and physical strength

improves breathing

decreases headaches

improves confidence

Create the right setting

While paying for off-site classes is certainly an option, if you have an appropriate space, on-site classes offer the advantages of accessibility and saved time. Limited time is often cited as the greatest obstacle to participation in any exercise program. Since yoga need not leave participants wringing wet, changing from business attire to workout gear and back again can be a quick and simple affair. Lunchtime classes are practical, as students can devote nearly the entire hour directly to the practice. However, some provision must be made for participants to eat afterward. Since it is best to avoid eating anything substantial for at least two hours before yoga, many students eat lunch at their desks as they start back to work after class.

Find powerful herbal remedies Yog Vigyan Pranayam VCD

Yoga, except those styles that make extensive use of props, does not require much equipment, so there is no need for additional space to store anything at your facility. Each participant can easily bring all items needed only on class days. A checklist of the most common props is provided at the end of this article.

A conference room, or any extra room on premises, can make an adequate yoga space. The room temperature should be around 70 degrees or warmer. Since the classes will involve deepening the breath, the room should be free of dust or contaminants such as air fresheners, insecticides or chemical cleaners. The room should be quiet and afford the group some privacy. Ideally, the instructor should be able to dim or turn off the lights.

Choose a yoga style

In addition to inquiring about a teacher’s credentials, ask if he or she teaches a particular style of yoga. While teachers can modify poses to suit an individual student, some styles of yoga are inherently more strenuous than others. A young, very fit group desiring a vigorous workout may enjoy a strenuous style such as Ashtanga, Power Yoga, or one of the more challenging flow styles. However, these styles would probably not be among the best choices if the participants have not exercised regularly, are older, or have some health concerns. And, just as with any exercise program, participants should check with their doctors before beginning yoga classes.

Natural Ways to Improve Memory and Concentration

A common myth about good memory: it is a gift that only a few persons have. Many adults believe that they couldn't do anything about consistently forgetting facts and things they should do or should have done. Forgetfulness is not a serious threat anyway, they believe. However, for those who need to boost their abilities to recall info, there are a few easy yet extremely effective methods on how to improve memory power.

Mental exercise is the key to boost memory power. Shortage of physical exercise makes the body inactive and lethargic, and absence of psychological exercise does the same thing to the mind. Train your mind frequently by repeating to yourself anything you need to remember as quickly as you learn it. This is very useful especially when remembering phone numbers and dates. Repetition is a simple system on how to improve memory power, but it works even for long term memory.

Another great psychological exercise is to envision how you're going to use the information in the future. As an example, when you meet an individual for the 1st time, imagine meeting him or her again after some time. That way, you are sure to remember the person's name when you meet again. You can also use other mnemonic methods like rhymes and word associations that may train you on how to improve memory power.

So, where should you begin if you want to improve your concentration? Start building into your daily schedule habits that lead to increased brain power. These include:

Mindfulness meditation. Start with five minutes in the morning and five minutes before bed, every day. A great guide if you are just getting started with meditation is Andrea Weiss' book Beginning Mindfulness. I have this book and am working through the 10 week course in mindfulness it describes. See the Mediation and Memory page for more information.

Proper sleep. Sorry to say it, but unless you are getting sufficient restful sleep, you are not going to be as mentally focused as you could be. See the Sleep & Memory page for tips and more information.

Here's an idea: consider upgrading your crummy old mattress. You know, the one that's so uncomfortable it makes you toss and turn all night? I recently bought a new Spring Air mattress to replace my old bad mattress and have never slept better. It wasn't cheap, but I look at it as an investment in my health (and my memory!).

Vitamins and other supplements. I've tried a number of brain enhancement supplements and other vitamins for memory. One in particular that seemed to help me concentrate better is "Attend" by VAXA. This is a non-prescription supplement for adults who may have Adult Attention Deficit Disorder.

Brain games. The more you use certain skills, the more they are reinforced in the brain, research shows. So it makes sense that playing concentration games and games that require you to focus will improve your concentration ability.

Eat healthier. Your brain needs the proper nutrients to allow you to focus, and your blood sugar needs to be properly regulated (the brain consumes glucose, a sugar, as its primary fuel). See the Diet & Memory page for more about this.

One of the best methods of exercise for both physical and mental benefits is the practice of yoga. The various techniques used in yoga not only improve muscle tone and flexibility but they also have been proven to stimulate the brain and nervous system in ways that can improve memory and concentration.

Some of the best yoga techniques for improving memory and concentration are the asana, pranayama, dharana and meditation. Asana includes using a gazing point (drishti) while performing balancing postures, spine lengthening exercises and inverted postures (like the headstand).

Using the drishti improvesconcentration while the exercises stimulate the nervous system. Pranayama focuses on breathing exercises. These not only help with concentration but also help more oxygen reach the brain.yoga improves memory and concentration

Find powerful herbal remedies Memory Loss and Improving Intelligence

Dharana techniques are specifically for the mind. These work on focusing concentration and attention rather than letting the mind wander. This kind of focused attention is a form of mind training as it becomes easier to concentrate and remember the more you practice.

Meditation takes dharana even further as it calls for intense mental focus and concentration. During meditation you empty your mind completely of all extraneous thoughts, basically giving your mind some much needed rest.

Nutrition is very important to brain function, hence also to memory and concentration abilities. Poor diets will result in a lack of the proper nutrients to feed your body and your brain. This lack will show itself in your mental state before it does in your physical health.

Research has shown multiple benefits for cognitive function from getting the proper amounts of certain nutrients. High fiber diets has been instrumental in the slowing of age-related memory loss as has diets rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are found particularly in fruits and vegetables and have been shown to offer protection from free radicals and other toxins in the blood.

Certain herbal supplements have been shown to have a positive affect on memory and concentration. One, ginkgo biloba, has been extensively studied and found that it actually increases blood flow in the brain. Not only does it improve memory and concentration through better blood flow, ginkgo biloba has also been shown to be a good source of antioxidants.

Home Remedies and Treatment for Hair Loss

Although hair is not essential to life, it is of sufficient cosmetic concern to provoke anxiety in anyone when it starts thinning, falling, or disappearing. To a woman, the sight of a comb or brush covered with lost hair can cause intense mental strain. Hair is formed in minute pockets in the skill called follicles. An upgrowth at the base of the follicle, called the papilla, actually produces hair when a special group of cells turn amino acids into keratin, a type of protein of which hair is made. The rate of production of these protein 'building blocks' determines hair growth. The average growth rate is about 1.2 cm per month, growing fastest on women between fifteen to thirty years of age.

Tips on Planning Your Pregnancy

A body of evidence continues to build about the effects of chronic stress on a woman’s ovulation and a man’s sperm production,” write Drs Rosenwaks and Goldstein in A Baby at Last!: The Couple’s Complete Guide to Getting Pregnant–from Cutting-Edge Treatments to Commonsense Wisdom. “Chronic stress alters brain signals to the hypothalamus, which in turn affects the hypothalamus’s signals to the pituitary and the pituitary’s signals to the ovaries and testicles.” Chronic stress can inhibit the body’s reproductive organs — it can interfere with your menstrual cycle, egg hatching, and ovulation phases – and it can even cause bodily changes that make you think you’re ovulating when you’re not. If you’re planning for a baby, try to relax as much as possible.

Timing sexual intercourse

The most important factor when trying to conceive is to have sexual intercourse during the woman’s fertile phase - that is, the five days leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. New life begins when an egg (ovum) from a woman is fertilised by sperm from a man. Ovulation occurs around 14 days before the start of the menstrual period, when an egg is released from one of the ovaries. Conception occurs when the egg is met by a sperm in the fallopian tube. Having sex in the days prior to ovulation (when the woman is aware of a slippery sensation at the vulva) and on the day of ovulation (usually the last day of the slippery sensation) increases the odds of pregnancy. Couples who have sexual intercourse around the middle or later stages of the woman’s menstrual cycle may have already missed the egg, which has a short lifespan.

Watch your figure – but don’t get “pencil thin”!

Finding your healthy body weight is one of the best tips for women ready to get pregnant. If you’re just starting to try to conceive, you may think that it’s a pain in the tushie to lose weight. But trust me — the real pain in the tushie comes when you have to go for infertility workups, fertility tests, and infertility procedures. Losing a few pounds is easy peasy compared to that! Watching your weight can increase your fertility levels, which will help you get pregnant faster.

Eat foods that increase your pregnancy chances

There are certain foods that increase female fertility, such as the healthy unsaturated fats in nuts, olive oil, and avocados. And, certain foods increase sperm count, such as seafood, leafy green veggies, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal. Eating a balanced, nutritious diet affects your eggs, menstrual cycle, and ovulation. Feed your body with healthy foods, and you’ll make the journey towards planning for a baby that much smoother.

Diet

There is no special diet that improves the odds of conception, but now is the time to start eating a healthier range of foods including fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats. There is no evidence to support the theory that taking supplements of vitamin C boosts fertility. It is recommended that women increase their intake of folate for a few months prior to conceiving and throughout the first few weeks of pregnancy, since this B-group vitamin has been found to reduce the risk of certain birth defects. Good sources of folate include leafy green vegetables. Folate supplements are also recommended.

Take care of your health problems

Are you struggling with health issues, such as diabetes, thyroid disease, ovarian syndromes, and endometriosis? Try to get them under control because can affect your chances of pregnancy. Explore alternative treatments for your health issues, if possible, and always ask your doctor if the medications he or she is prescribing will affect your current or future chances of getting pregnant.

Stop smoking (even if you’re not ready to get pregnant)

This is the easiest pregnancy tip of all — if you’re a nonsmoker! “Smoking constricts blood vessels, including those that feed the ovaries, which accelerates the loss of eggs,” says Dr Sherman Silber of the Infertilty Center of St. Louis — he wrote How to Get Pregnant. “Sure, women who smoke can get pregnant – when they’re young. But smoking can cause you to become infertile earlier than you would as a nonsmoker.”

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

Find powerful herbal remedies Dry Skin and Body Odour

A crucial step in planning a pregnancy is to begin limiting your caffeine intake, stop smoking immediately if applicable, and if you use any recreational drugs, stop using them before you try to get pregnant. Any unnatural substances can be very harmful to you and your unborn baby.

When planning a pregnancy, money always figures into the equation. The ideal situation is to be financially secure before starting a family. However, it is extremely difficult to plan for everything. There will always be something or some unexpected situation that will require additional money. While you can try to prevent money problems from occurring, when money is the issue there is never going to be the perfect time or the ideal lifestyle.

There are many factors to consider in regard to your financial situation when planning a pregnancy. Daycare can be extremely expensive. If you will return to work after the birth of your child, you will need to include the cost of daycare into your post-pregnancy budget. If you decide to stay home with your child, decide which spouse should stay home and how your family will survive financially on one income. Also, factor in the cost of diapers, formula and baby food. These can easily add up to six hundred dollars extra per month or more.

Every expectant parent wants a healthy, happy baby. Planning your pregnancy in advance is the best way to ensure a healthy mother and baby and avoid a negative impact on your personal and financial lives. Having a baby will change your life forever. With good planning, pregnancy can be a stress-free experience that will lead you effortlessly into the next phase of your life.

Height Gain Exercise to Increase Grow Taller

Some height increasing exercises, along with proper diet and better sleeping habits, may help aid the growing process. However, for an adult to grow taller significantly is something that has not been substantiated with evidence by medical professionals. Adolescents who are still growing may see some improvements, especially if they adhere to the nutritional advice. An important factor is age. You can't change or control when your growth plates fuse up and close. Usually this happens around the age of 24. You may still grow after that, but it is a lot harder. Younger children may grow taller more with a good diet and a better exercise plan than they might grow without them. Genetics still play a very important role to determine the final height of an individual.

Best height increasing exercises to lengthen & strengthen your muscles

Are you looking to grow a few more inches taller? YES? Then it is time to get yourself involved in some height increasing exercises that will surely help you gain at least 3 - 4 inches in a short span of time, if you do them regularly. Actually, there is not secret to these exercises as they're all based on logical and scientific methods that will help you gain height. Let's take a look at them now.

Stretches - You might have definitely done stretches before, they're the most effective warm up for any type of workout. It is recommended that you do the stretches for at least 15 minutes everyday. Car stretch, cobra stretch, the bridge, the table, bow down, super stretch, twists and basic leg stretches is a great way to start with.

Hanging exercises - Hanging exercises can be done by everyone. Initially it might be tough but with time you will be able to master it. It is really simple - hanging on a bar with your arms and spine stretching for 10 seconds will give you amazing results. Do this for 2 minutes everyday (10 seconds x 12 times) and you'll know the magic it can do.

Swimming - If you don't know swimming just go and learn it because this is something you should not miss out on.
